How it works
Random, unbiased and private
Each character is picked with your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same source browsers use for encryption keys. Random values that would make some characters slightly more likely than others are thrown away and drawn again, so every allowed character has exactly the same chance.

What the strength means
Strength is an estimate in bits: the length multiplied by log2 of the number of possible characters. Each extra bit doubles the number of guesses needed. As a rough guide, under 50 bits is weak, 50 to 80 bits is fair, and 80 bits or more is strong. The estimate only holds for random passwords like these, not for passwords people make up.
Keep each password in a password manager, use a different one for every account, and turn on two-factor sign-in wherever it is offered.
