EmDash hosting Beta

EmDash hosting, set up and kept running.

EmDash is the new content management system built on Astro. Netkeel installs and builds it on a private cloud server, keeps it running, and keeps its database and media in the website's files, so every backup includes them.

Good to know

What is not available yet.

EmDash websites have no Git deploy, Node.js settings or environment variable editor, and plugins from the EmDash marketplace can't be installed. Staging, cloning and moving to another server are not available yet.

Step-by-step guides are in the EmDash docs.

Pricing

Pay for the server, not for each site.

EmDash needs a server with at least 2 GB of memory: a 2 GB Standard server on Vultr is $19/mo, billed by the hour and never more than the monthly price. One server holds as many EmDash websites as it has room for.

Questions

EmDash hosting, answered.

Why does EmDash need a 2 GB server?

Building EmDash needs the memory, so only server sizes with at least 2 GB are offered. One server can hold as many EmDash websites as it has room for.

Where are the database and media kept?

In the website's files, in data/emdash.db and data/uploads. The automatic backups include them; EmDash stops for a moment while a backup is taken.

What if I lose my passkey or change my domain?

Create a sign-in link in the panel. It signs you in once, within 15 minutes, and opens EmDash's security settings so you can add a passkey.

Can I add plugins?

Yes. Add them in the project's astro.config.mjs, then click Install again. Plugins from the EmDash marketplace can't be installed.

What does beta mean?

EmDash hosting is new on Netkeel. Your websites are backed up and looked after like any other, but some features WordPress websites have, such as staging, cloning and moving to another server, are not available for EmDash yet.
