Recover a website after losing its server
If a server is deleted at the cloud provider, or is lost for another reason, its websites go offline and the backups stored on it are gone with it. Their off-site backups are not: from those, Netkeel can rebuild each website on another server in one step.
Recover the website
Section titled “Recover the website”- If you don’t have another server, create one first.
- Open the website. A banner says its server no longer exists.
- Click Recover on another server.
- Choose:
- the Backup to recover from (the latest is selected),
- the Server to put the website on,
- the Domain. The website’s own domain is filled in. A website that only had a Netkeel preview address needs a domain you own.
- Click Recover website.
Netkeel creates the website on that server, brings the backup back from off-site storage and restores its files, database and settings. This runs in the background; follow it under the bell icon.
When it is done, the recovered website appears under Websites, and the old one is removed. Its other off-site backups move to the recovered website, so you can still restore any of them.
Afterwards
Section titled “Afterwards”- Point your domain’s DNS to the new server, then take the website live.
- Delete the lost server under Servers to tidy up.
If a recovery fails, the old website is left as it was, so you can try again (for example with an older backup or another server).
