Staging access

Every staging copy is created with password protection on. Anyone who opens it must sign in with a username and password first. Search engines are always told not to index a staging copy, whether or not the password is on.

  1. Open the website and click the Staging tab.
  2. Go to Staging settings.

Under Staging access you see the Address, Username and Password. Click the eye to show the password and the copy buttons to copy any of them. Share these with the people testing the staging copy.

The status at the top right reads Protected or Public.

  1. On Staging settings, click Configure access. You can also click Staging access in the staging copy’s actions.
  2. Edit the Username: 3 to 32 letters, numbers, dots, dashes or underscores.
  3. To set a new password, click Change password, then type one of at least 12 characters, or leave it blank to have Netkeel generate one.
  4. Click Save access settings.

Changing only the username keeps the current password, so testers just need the new username.

In the Staging access window, untick or tick Protect this staging environment, then click Save access settings.

  • Off: anyone with the address can open the staging copy. Search engines are still blocked.
  • On again: Netkeel generates a new password unless you type one.
