Delete a website

If you only want the website to stop answering for a while, disable it rather than deleting it.

  1. Open the website, then More › Disable website.
  2. Confirm Disable website.

The website is offline until you enable it again with More › Enable website. Its files, databases and backups stay as they are, and its cron jobs don’t run while it is disabled.

You can also use Disable or Enable in the website’s menu in the Websites list.

To show visitors a “back soon” page while you keep working, use maintenance mode instead.

Deleting a website can’t be undone. Before you start:

  • Download a backup if you might want the website again. See Create and download backups.
  • Delete its staging copy. A website with a staging copy can’t be deleted until the staging copy is gone. See Delete a staging copy.
  • Finish or cancel any move. A website being moved can’t be deleted.
  • Wait for copies to finish. A website that is still being cloned can’t be deleted.
  • Check the server is online. The server must be connected to delete the website’s files and databases.
  1. Open the website, then More › Delete website. You can also use Delete in the website’s menu in the Websites list.
  2. Read the message, then tick “Yes, I understand this cannot be undone.”
  3. Click Delete website.

Netkeel removes the website from your account and deletes its files, its databases and its backups on the server. If its server had off-site backup on, the off-site copies are kept for 30 days: until then you can download them or restore the website from Recently deleted at the bottom of Websites.

Large websites can take a while. If the server is still working after ten minutes, the panel says “Still deleting on the server” and the website disappears from the list when it is done.

  • Deleting a website doesn’t delete the server it was on, and the server’s bill doesn’t change. To stop paying for the server, delete the server. See Servers.
  • Remove or change the domain’s DNS records at your DNS provider if they still point to the server.
