Domains and SSL

Every website on Netkeel has two kinds of address:

  • A preview address, which Netkeel gives the site the moment it is created. It works with HTTPS straight away, so you can build and test before your domain is ready.
  • Your own domain, which you connect when the site is ready for visitors. Netkeel issues a free Let’s Encrypt certificate for it and renews it automatically.

Your domain stays registered where it is, and its DNS stays with your DNS provider. Netkeel does not host DNS. You add one or two records at your provider, and Netkeel checks that they point to your server.

  1. Build the site on its preview address.
  2. Add the DNS records at your DNS provider.
  3. Connect your domain. Netkeel checks DNS, issues the certificate and moves the site onto your domain.
  4. Optionally add www to the certificate. See SSL certificates.
  • The banner at the top of a website shows its preview address while the site is not live yet, with the button to take it live.
  • The DNS status next to the website’s address (for example DNS resolved or DNS not configured) opens the Domain connection dialog with the records you need.
  • Domains & SSL (under Hosting in the website’s menu) lists the website’s addresses with their DNS and SSL status. Open a domain to manage its certificate and HTTPS redirect.
