Drupal
A Drupal website is Drupal installed and ready, with its database. Netkeel runs its scheduled tasks and updates it for you, with a backup first.
Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Create a server and choose Drupal under 2 Application.
- When the server is Online, add a website to it, with your domain or with No domain yet? Start without one.
- In the Add website dialog, choose the Edition under the domain:
- Drupal CMS: Drupal with ready-made features for content, media, search and SEO. This is the default.
- Drupal core: Drupal with its standard profile, a clean start to build on.
Netkeel installs Drupal on its own. This takes a few minutes. Open the website and go to Hosting › Drupal to follow it.
If the installation fails, the card says why. Click Install again to install Drupal from the start, with new administrator credentials.
Sign in as the administrator
Section titled “Sign in as the administrator”Netkeel creates Drupal’s first administrator for you. When Drupal is installed, the Administrator card shows its Username, Password, Email (your account’s email address) and the Sign in address.
They are shown once by themselves. Keep the password somewhere safe. Later, click Show credentials to see them again.
Click Open admin to go to Drupal’s sign-in page.
The Drupal section
Section titled “The Drupal section”Open the website and go to Hosting › Drupal. The top card shows the Edition, the Version you run, the Latest version Netkeel offers and the Admin address.
The Status card shows:
- PHP: the website’s PHP version. Click Change to open the PHP settings.
- Maintenance mode: whether Drupal’s maintenance mode is on.
- Scheduled tasks, Last run and Last task run: how often Drupal’s cron runs, when the server last started it and when a task last ran.
Scheduled tasks
Section titled “Scheduled tasks”The server runs Drupal’s cron every 30 minutes as the website, so it runs without visitors. Drupal’s own cron on page views is switched off. You don’t need to add a cron job for it.
Update Drupal
Section titled “Update Drupal”When a newer version is available, click Update to that version and confirm.
Netkeel takes a backup first. Drupal is then updated with Composer and its database updates run; Drupal shows its maintenance page meanwhile. If the website doesn’t answer afterwards, its files and database from before the update are put back automatically.
You can also update Drupal yourself with Composer. The panel shows the version installed on the server.
Add modules and themes
Section titled “Add modules and themes”Add modules and themes with Composer over SSH, using the website’s login under SSH / SFTP (see SFTP and SSH access). The Drupal project is in the website’s folder, and the web root is web/.
Netkeel writes settings.netkeel.php with the database and trusted host settings, and writes it again when it needs to. Put your own settings in settings.php.
Drupal needs PHP 8.3 or newer. Choose the version under PHP. The panel won’t switch a Drupal website to an older one. See PHP settings.
Backups
Section titled “Backups”Drupal’s files and database are backed up with the website’s automatic backups, and you can restore them as for any website.
Who can do what
Section titled “Who can do what”The Owner and Super admins see the administrator’s credentials, install Drupal again after a failed installation and update it. Collaborators with access to the website see its version and status. See Team members.
What is not available yet
Section titled “What is not available yet”Staging, cloning, moving to another server, deploying from Git and import and export are not available for Drupal websites yet.
