Joomla
A Joomla website is Joomla installed and ready, with its database. Netkeel runs its scheduled tasks and updates it for you, with a backup first.
Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Create a server and choose Joomla under 2 Application.
- When the server is Online, add a website to it, with your domain or with No domain yet? Start without one. There is nothing extra to choose.
- Netkeel installs Joomla on its own. This takes a few minutes. Open the website and go to Hosting › Joomla to follow it.
If the installation fails, the card says why. Click Install again to install Joomla from the start, with new administrator credentials.
Sign in as the administrator
Section titled “Sign in as the administrator”Netkeel creates Joomla’s first administrator for you. When Joomla is installed, the Administrator card shows its Username, Password, Email (your account’s email address) and the Sign in address.
They are shown once by themselves. Keep the password somewhere safe. Later, click Show credentials to see them again.
Click Open admin to go to Joomla’s administrator.
The Joomla section
Section titled “The Joomla section”Open the website and go to Hosting › Joomla. The top card shows the Version you run, the Latest version Netkeel offers and the Admin address.
The Status card shows:
- PHP: the website’s PHP version. Click Change to open the PHP settings.
- Maintenance mode: whether Joomla’s site is offline for maintenance.
- Scheduled tasks, Last run and Last task run: how often Joomla’s scheduled tasks run, when the server last started them and when a task last ran.
Scheduled tasks
Section titled “Scheduled tasks”The server runs Joomla’s scheduled tasks every 5 minutes as the website, so they run without visitors. Joomla’s own page-view scheduler is switched off. You don’t need to add a cron job for it.
Update Joomla
Section titled “Update Joomla”When a newer version is available, click Update to that version and confirm.
Netkeel takes a backup first, then updates Joomla with Joomla’s own updater. If the website doesn’t answer afterwards, its files and database from before the update are put back automatically.
A major upgrade, such as from Joomla 5 to Joomla 6, isn’t done from the panel. Run Joomla’s pre-update check in its administrator, then update from there. The panel shows the version installed on the server.
Add extensions
Section titled “Add extensions”Add extensions from Joomla’s administrator. Netkeel keeps the database settings in configuration.php up to date after a restore or a database password change.
Joomla needs PHP 8.3 or newer. Choose the version under PHP. The panel won’t switch a Joomla website to an older one. See PHP settings.
Backups
Section titled “Backups”Joomla’s files and database are backed up with the website’s automatic backups, and you can restore them as for any website.
Who can do what
Section titled “Who can do what”The Owner and Super admins see the administrator’s credentials, install Joomla again after a failed installation and update it. Collaborators with access to the website see its version and status. See Team members.
What is not available yet
Section titled “What is not available yet”Staging, cloning, moving to another server, deploying from Git and import and export are not available for Joomla websites yet.
